“This seemingly simple process, combining breathing, evocative music and other forms of sound, bodywork, and artistic expression, has an extraordinary potential for opening the way for exploring the entire spectrum of the inner world.

– Stanislav Grof, psychiatrist with sixty+ years researching non-ordinary states of consciousness and a founder and chief theoretician of transpersonal psychology.

ABOUT BREATHWORK*

During a guided, active breathwork session, one may experience energy awakening and moving within the body. As we tap into this intentional breathwork, it may move and discharge energy that's been stuck within the body; energy that may be connected to suppressed emotions, memories and possibly even traumas. When this is accessed during a session there can be a powerful release in the form of tears, shaking, shouting, laughing, etc. This type of breathwork is often compared to be similar to what one may experience in a psychedelic journey (an advantage to breathwork being that the individual practicing is in control during the session, and can move into normal, natural breathing at any time!). During an active breathwork session one may experience energetic and physical release including, but not limited to:

  • Tetany (cramping sensation)

    • Tetany, when it occurs, most often occurs in the extremities (and sometimes the feet, hands, and sometimes the face). Tetany is an indicator that the body is moving and releasing stuck energy that has been held unnecessarily in the body.

  • Bodily release

    • The body may release in the form of laughter, tears, sweating, shaking, etc. All forms of release are welcome and safe to be felt in the space we’ll share during our work at The Heart Space Center. These releases are simply the wisdom of the body letting go of what's not serving it. If experienced and comfortable to be with it, it is encouraged to lean into whatever arises and allow it to release in whatever organic way the body is choosing (ie: sweat, shaking, laughter, etc.).

  • No visible signs of release

    • Sometimes there are no visible signs of release, and those sessions can be equally as powerful.

Everyone’s experience is different and within multiple personal experiences, each personal experience can also be different. If you choose to take a guided breathwork session, we invite you to show up with an openness to what your body, your breath, and the moment may uncover for you. Trust the wisdom of your body and your breath, and allow yourself to be in what may unfold.

PRIVATE breathwork

Prior to your first private session, and after completing your intake paperwork, you will be encouraged to schedule a 30-minute phone consultation to discuss your intentions, experience, and goals with breathwork.

During the session, we will begin with gentle movement and breath to arrive into the body, the moment, and the space. There will be 30-40 minutes of guided active breathwork* where we will move through the chakra system as the body awakens and releases; all set to curated music to help deepen the breath journey. Depending on session goals, we will conclude the active breathwork with silent or guided meditation and grounding to support the body and mind after all that was released during the active session. Time for what is most needed (journaling, continued meditation, discussion, creative expression) will close our session, accompanied by a light nurturing snack to aid in grounding and integration.

group breathwork

Group breathwork* sessions are periodically offered at The Heart Space Center for small groups of ~2-4, and/or in larger community spaces (yoga studios, meditation spaces, etc.).

If you're interested in booking a group breathwork session, please contact us for details and scheduling options.
